|
| . |
|
The Farwest Leader is a 110ft, crab catcher vessel. The vessel was built in 1979 in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, specifically for Alaskan crab fishing operations. The vessel is managed by Trident Seafoods Corporation of Seattle, WA. It is owned by Trident Seafoods in partnership with the Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association (APICDA). The majority of the vessel's operations take place in the Bering Sea, the location of one of the most dangerous occupations in the world, crab fishing. |

Each winter, the vessel targets King crab, Opilio and Bairdi tanner crab and also participates in the Pacific cod fishery using cod pots. The Farwest Leader is extremely seaworthy and has proven to be one of the most successful crab vessels in the Bering Sea. |

In the summer, the Farwest Leader spends time tendering salmon in Alaska. The vessel is equipped with a state-of-the-art refrigerated seawater system. This system allows the Farwest Leader to bring the freshest salmon possible to Trident Seafoods canneries and freezing operations. The vessel's shallow draft makes it ideal for these tendering operations, as it allows the vessel to transit into the river mouths of Bristol Bay where the salmon harvesting operations take place. |

The Farwest Leader is run by Captain Greg Moncrief, a 20-year veteran of the Alaskan fisheries. Greg has captained the Farwest Leader for the last several years. |
